It is simply all-around better, and having seen this new version I don't really see much point in watching the versions lacking this additional content. The new footage doesn't slow the film at all, doesn't distract from the rest of the film at all, and doesn't make the film too long at all. The short version is, X-Men: Days of Future Past - The Rogue Cut takes an already terrific film and adds more awesomeness to it. Now let me explain what makes the Rogue Cut the definitive version of X-Men: Days of Future Past, and why I wish this had been the main theatrical release in the first place. Of course, one thing working against it is that the theatrical version of the film already released to the home market months ago, but that's why it's crucial for this version to highlight how much it has to offer as a new experience that's beyond simply another edition with some bonus features.

On top of that, we have the new revelations about X-Men: Apocalypse, including the new images of characters in costume from that film.Įven though home entertainment sales were down overall last year and appear trending toward another dip this year, certain titles are well positioned to perform at higher levels, and the Rogue Cut has multiple factors working in its favor to help make it one of the stronger performers. It also helps that this comes during the heightened media coverage over the franchise's 15th anniversary, and in the immediate aftermath of Comic Con, which always puts a spotlight on the genre in general and gave Fox an opportunity to highlight the X-Men at an SDCC panel. Quite frankly, if you haven't seen the Rogue Cut, then you're missing on out the full, truest version of the film, as far as I'm concerned. It has major selling points, then, that most other home releases cannot brag about. This is, as I said, an entire new subplot featuring a character otherwise absent from the main story, action sequences that enhance the story and pacing, a lot more sequences set in the far-future, more screen time for the original cast, and greater character development for a few other characters (including more about the love triangle that developed between some of them).

The Rogue Cut has a big advantage over typical home releases, since it's a new version of the film and actually offers a great deal more than merely some deleted footage. ( I looked more in-depth at the 15 year history of the X-Men franchise earlier this month, so be sure to check that out too.) And we can then add the foreign sales and rental figures, which should boost the home entertainment market's grand total to nearly $1 billion for the entire series, for all Blu-ray/DVD/Digital-HD sales and rentals. This doesn't include Digital-HD sales, and it also excludes rental sales, which should easily push the numbers toward at least $750+ million (surely a ridiculous underestimate). X-Men films have taken more than $700 million in domestic Blu-ray and DVD sales to date (the first five films made $553+ million domestic as of November 2013, and The Wolverine and Days of Future Past took a combined $150+ million as of this summer ). But it's success on Blu-ray/DVD/Digital-HD should be secure, based on the series' track record thus far. The Rogue Cut didn't get a theatrical release (although it did enjoy a special screening at San Diego Comic Con this year, where prize-winning fan Joey DiPadova got my personal two tickets to the screening after he proved his knowledge of the X-Men franchise - congrats for the win, Joey!).
